Deep Creek Middle School

Deep Creek Middle School (DCMS) is an independent school for Bahamian students in grades seven through nine located on the southern end of the island of Eleuthera, The Bahamas. DCMS works closely with The Island School, sharing resources and oceanographic learning experiences.

World Story Exchange instructors joined DCMS's 7th grade students and teachers during their ongoing School Without Walls program. For one week students had opportunities to learn about marine ecology from scientists at Cape Eleuthera Institute, to meet international high school students on campus at The Island School, to practice snorkeling and swimming, and to make a documentary story about their experiences.

For some of the students, swimming and snorkeling were new endeavors. While Lindsay and Scott were there to teach a documentary storytelling workshop, they often found themselves giving swimming lessons and teaching the students the basics of snorkeling. Both Lindsay and Scott are experienced ocean athletes, and they found it very rewarding to pass on some of their knowledge to students.

Enjoy the films from the documentary storytelling project "Our Ocean Stories".
